MICHAEL L. MURPHYMike L. Murphy left high school a year early (much to Dad's dismay*) to study animation at the infamous CalArts.
Upon graduation he rose to the top of the character animation world by contributing to such classics as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone,
Brad Bird's Iron Giant, and Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings (he animated Gollum). *This made his dad happy.
He worked for over a decade as a character animator for such studios as Walt Disney Feature Animation, Warner Bros. Feature Animation, Sony Imageworks,
Weta Digital, Digital Domain & more. After a decade of animating he transitioned into previsualization (digital storyboards for you un-nerdy types)
and designed or supervised on such hits as 2012, Cats & Dogs 2, and Ironman.
This allowed him to work with some of Hollywood's top directors and design iconic action and effects sequences.
During this time, Mike directed numerous award-winning short films (his short Rose won best cinematography at the 2006 Rhode Island Int'l Film festival) and commercials.
He has also directed and supervised animation for Discovery Channel's Dirty Jobs, Mrs. Buttersworth & Hasbro's Mr. Monopoly.
In his free time, Mike likes to paint pretty girls and develop cool feature films. He also makes a mean spicy Thai chicken soup...you've been warned!* (*Too spicy for dad).
